io9 and the Terminator drinking game!

After having a pretty hectic day (200+ miles traveling to client sites, note the plural and 3 mile run in the evening) I spent this evening catching up on TV and web. A site I have been trying to follow and failing to keep up with the cascade of posts is www.io9.com

Two such posts is the one on the comparison between the US and Japanese comicbook adaptions of Star Wars. Japan wins hands down if you ask me. ( http://www.starwars.com/eu/lit/comics/f ... index.html ). Second is the link to http://www.sci-fi-london.com/festival/2008/48hour/ which is a project to create a SiFi movie in 48 hours.

Last but not least is the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chroniclesdrinking game!
check it out over at http://io9.com/362813/save-sarah-connor ... ting-drunk or just read on below...

Take a swig of beer every time:

Summer Glau tilts her head to one side and stares intently.
Thomas Dekker looks at the ground like a whipped puppy.
Brian Austin Green punches a wall or some other surface.
One of the high school kids looks at Summer Glau funny.
We see Lena Headey exercising.
Someone mentions "The Turk."
Lena Headey has a bad dream. (Three swigs if she decides to take action based on it.)
Someone tells John Connor that he's not the heroic "Future John" yet.
Summer Glau repeats something someone has just said to her, in a robotic monotone.

Drink a whole shot every time:

Sarah Connor has a voice-over where she quotes from literature or history, or talks about wise old sayings.
Summer Glau says something dorky, like "Thank you for explaining." Or tries to talk like a cool kid and fails.
FBI Agent Ellison reads, or quotes, from the Bible.
A Terminator other than Summer Glau is in a scene, and doesn't commit any violence.
John Connor has a surrogate-dad moment with Brian Austin Green or his ex-step-dad.
John Connor decides to prove he's a hero by doing something completely half-cocked.

Drink a healthy swig of beer and a whole shot whenever:

Another Terminator gets its skin ripped off, or actually gets deactivated, but Summer Glau walks away without a scratch.
There's a discussion of whether Summer Glau has a soul.
Sarah Connor screams at her son, or cries.
FBI Agent Ellison starts acting like he believes in the Terminators.

Enjoy!

Flash Gordon, Life, Weight and the universe.

Phew... how can it be Monday and I am exhausted already!
Work is hectic at the moment, too hectic and I am fried! I have been developing a bunch of code. Two different projects, with totally different directions. Whilst trying to get these done, I have a business trip to Vietnam looming.

The Vietnam trip would be (and technically still is) something I was looking forward to, if it was not for all the other thinks and the painfully short time frames!

I am writing this blog post whilst watching the new Flash Gordon on TV, not cool, not cool at all. Nice to see "the goth chick" from "Blood Ties" again. Shame the show is weak, really weak. Flash went from jetsetting quarterback hunk, to Marathon running, living at home with his mum is a small town!!

Anyway...

So I have finally broken the 90kg barrier, it would seem that the decreased calorific input + increasing mileage + Judo is having it's effect, finally. Nice to have dropped a bit of weight.

I return to University of Bath soon also, this time to do the Bsc as I have finished the FdSc. I shall be blogging it again over on www.judocoach.com so stay tuned for more of me typing before thinking. ;-)

In other news it looks like we'll be staying in the Southampton area (there was a good chance we might have been moving to Salisbury), so once I get back from Bath I think I shall start looking in earnest for a Dojo location.

Anyway, I am off to a client's in the morning, so I must head off to bed.

Lance

Selling Twitter to non geeks.

Here's an interesting question for you to ponder dear reader, how do you "sell" twitter to non-geeks? How many non geeks do you know use twitter (or equivalent technology) yet?

I have tried to get my sister-in-law (18 years), sold on twitter/jaiku and yet she does not use it, nor do her friends at University. I don't get it, why not?
It's the perfect medium for the "Facebook generation" surely? They spend their whole time updating Facbook and also sending text messages. Twitter is a mix of the two, so why has it not gained more traction with her and here peers?

I also tried to encourage and old friend from New Zealand to try twitter, she saw my "twitterings" in my status on Facebook an wondered what it was all about. So she tried it and I think is giving up on it.

One of the hard things with twitter I think (and with facebook etc) is that you need a critical mass of friends on the system for it to be fun. I am only just reaching that stage with twitter, the more I use it, the more valuable it becomes to me. I love the "social sixth sense" it offers and would love it if my sister-in-law, wife, brother, sister, father, boss, dentist, etc all used it.

My question is "why?", why have they not taken to twitter?
It seems to have plenty of press, it's even on facebook, so how come it's not getting traction outside of we geeks?

Weird?

I'd appreciate your opinions and ideas.

Lance.
